Students can undertake lessons in
All singing lessons include the study of music theory, aural skills and musicianship.
Beginner singing lessons are conducted weekly and are of no more than 30 minutes duration.
Intermediate to advanced lessons are conducted weekly or fortnightly and are between 30 and 60 minutes duration.
Lessons can be for fun, or geared towards grade examinations with the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB), Trinity College of London, or the Australian Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
Adult singing lessons are usually one hour in duration and are conducted fortnightly or intermittently depending on the student’s other commitments.
The purpose of the individual’s lessons drives the programme structure. For example, if preparing for an audition, examination, recording or specific performance, regular attendance is usually required. If attending for the technical and performance skills necessary to round out ‘triple threat’ criteria for developing young musical theatre performers, flexible attendance is often satisfactory.
For mature beginners, flexible lessons are the way to go. This allows the student to enjoy the process of learning the piano and/or singing while not interfering in the enjoyment of other activities and work. Similarly for students of any age who have reached advanced levels of musicianship and are wanting to pick up their skills again, this flexible attendance schedule works very well.
